Live Sail Die & 12′ Skiffs

The 49th 12′ Skiff Intermoninions kick off tomorrow and LSD is pleased to announce that we are one of their sponsors! We have provided tall beer glasses for the overall placings and handicap placings. Maybe we will even fill them with beer…!

If you are in the local BrisVegas Manly area (or surrounding suburbs) then try to get down to the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron because a huge spectator boat will be available each day. There is a little cost of $13.00 to cover it, but you are guaranteed to witness some great racing.

Over the next few days I will be on the water taking photos and will post them somewhere (probably here) when I can. At the end of the regatta I will move them to SAILINGphotos.net

There are a few new boats on the water for this regatta including BigO’s blue thing…

‘Bob Steel still wearing his 2002 Rolex with pride – Rolex Sydney Hobart 2008′ Crosbie Lorimer

From Sail-World.com

Bob Steel’s Quest (AUS/NSW) has been confirmed as the overall handicap winner of the 64th Rolex Sydney Hobart 2008.

Steel’s crew were ninth across the line, finishing at 14.00.37 AEDT on Sunday, 28 December, less than five hours after Line Honours winner Wild Oats XI.

None of the competitors to have finished since Quest have been able to knock her off pole position but, with so many of the fleet still at sea, the CYCA waited until this morning to be certain of the result.

On board Wild Oats XI – Andrea Francolini ©

Wild Oats XI wrote themselves into the history books again this morning by winning line honours in the Rolex Sydney to Hobart for the forth consecutive time.

But it was close running between them and Skandia, with a lot of people saying that it would be great if Skandia won.

But it turned out to be Oats.

The next group of yachts are due to finish shortly, including our favourite Black Jack.

Congratulations again to all the crew on board Wild Oats XI and to Skandia for giving them a run for their money.

2. Skandia – 01:21:41:17 – 28 Dec, 10:41am

Merry Boxing Day!

Boxing Day marks the start of the Great Race, the Rolex Sydney to Hobart.

As of now 1231 (Brissy time and 1331 Sydney time) the yachts are 32.03 minutes into the race.

So far it’s been all about Wild Oats XI, probably due to their relationship with race broadcasters Channel 7, and maybe because they are set to break the race record.

It was great to see Black Jack get some media time, with the lads on board having a real chance on being the first Queensland yacht to win the Hobart race on Handicap.

Best of luck to everyone who is racing. For those like me the next few nights will be sleepless as we monitor their progress on the official website.

GO BLACK JACK!!! (LSD has no bias…..!)
